Tre. Charles / Ray & the Lovers

  • Brewbakers 48 Emerald St Keene, NH, 03431 United States (map)

Tre. Charles makes music that feels suspended in time—somewhere between memory, confession, and dream. Rooted in soul yet unbound by genre, his work drifts through atmospheric textures, raw emotional crooning, and intimate songwriting that lingers long after the music fades.

Raised in constant motion along the East Coast, Charles grew up between cities, cultures, and emotional landscapes. That transient upbringing became the foundation of his artistic voice: restless, reflective, and deeply human. Drawing from the emotional gravity of legends like Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers, and Lauryn Hill while channeling the experimental vulnerability of modern contemporaries like Sampha, Hozier, Brittany Howard, and James Blake, he has carved out a sound that is both expansive and intensely personal.

His recordings unfold like internal monologues—cathedral-like reverbs, fractured harmonies, and slow-burning arrangements wrapped around meditations on longing, identity, healing, and transformation. Pitchfork contributor Brian Howe described the music as “stretched and shifted vocal harmonies,” capturing the immersive quality that has become central to Charles’ artistic signature.

That emotional resonance has carried from intimate rooms to major festival stages, including the NewportJazz Festival, Hopscotch Music Festival, Musicians Corner, and the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Along the way, he has shared stages with artists such as Tune-Yards, Tank and the Bangas, The Dip, Jalen Ngonda, Fantastic Negrito, Lo Moon, Yasmin Williams, Digable Planets, and Cedric Burnside, building a reputation for performances that feel less like concerts and more like shared cinematic catharsis.

Ray & the Lovers are a can’t-miss soul band hailing from Boston, fronted by the charismatic lead singer Ray Hendricks. Known for their electrifying live performances and emotionally charged songwriting, the band fuses raw energy with rich, soulful melodies—creating a sound that resonates deeply with audiences across New England. Drawing inspiration from classic R&B, blues, and modern influences, Ray & the Lovers craft a style that feels both timeless and fresh.

Ray Hendricks grew up in Athol, Massachusetts, the son of a jazz guitarist, where music was always a constant presence. Despite this early exposure, his initial passions leaned more toward athletics than songwriting. In fact, he didn’t write his first song until after graduating high school—a late start that would soon ignite a powerful creative awakening.

In the early 2000s, Hendricks experienced a surge of artistic output, channeling years of untapped expression into a rapidly growing catalog. This prolific period led to the formation of the Ray Hendricks Revival and the release of their 2007 debut album, Lost In The Year, a project that captured his emerging voice as both a songwriter and performer.

After relocating to Boston, Hendricks’ musical journey continued to evolve, shaped by both personal experiences and global events. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he returned to songwriting with renewed purpose, rediscovering the creative spark that had first driven him. Reconnecting with longtime friend and former bandmate Pat Patterson, the two began performing together again—this time with The Lovers, a group rooted in Hendricks’ hometown of Athol.

Now, as Ray & the Lovers take the stage, they bring with them years of growth, resilience, and a deepened sense of purpose. Their music isn’t just performed—it’s lived, carrying the weight of experience and the joy of rediscovery. With every show, they invite audiences into something real, raw, and unforgettable—proving that some voices only grow stronger with time.

Doors are at 7pm and music will start at 730. This show is all ages and seating is limited and also first come first served.
