Stephen Malkmus is a singer and guitarist in the groups Pavement, The Jicks, and the Hard Quartet and was a member of Silver Jews. A graduate of the University of Virginia and a tennis enthusiast, he lives in Chicago.
Mirah Yom Tov Zeitlyn lives in Brooklyn, New York, where she works as a song writer, performer, producer and mom. In a constant dedication to expanding her tender repertoire of American folk songs into a larger context, her recordings seek to find the magical amity between explorative percussion, orchestral sounds and elements of rock and popular music.
Since starting out in the late 1990’s, she has released over a dozen solo and collaborative recordings on various independent labels including K Records, Kill Rock Stars, Absolute Magnitude Recordings, Double Double Whammy and 7e.p., and toured solo and with countless iterations of her own band in concert halls, music clubs and punk basements all across North America, Japan and Europe.
Recent-ish releases include 2018’s ‘Understanding’ and 2020’s 20th anniversary reissue of her first full length record ‘You Think It’s Like This But Really It’s Like This’. She is currently putting the finishing touches on a new album which will be released on Double Double Whammy in early 2026.
Mirah has dedicated her creative process to investigating the complicated intersections within communities large and small, believing that with deeper understanding of each other, the seeds of a more generous and less violent world are planted.
Undertow Brass Band, formerly known as What Cheer? Brigade, is an energetic party band from Providence, RI, USA. We play dance music without microphones, so we can make noise almost anywhere. We are loud, tight, and love to dance with crowds, offering mobile moments of intense revelry.
Our music includes covers and originals, taking inspiration from genres ranging from Balkan, New Orleans, and other global brass traditions, as well as electronic dance music, classical, and pop. The band emerged from the Providence underground music scene in 2005, inspired by the unlikely overlap between the intensity of punk rock and brass. From these origins, the band developed its original sound, with one foot in Balkan tradition, the other in the American punk scene.
Since 2005, the band has been as likely to appear at community benefits as at all-night parties, playing bars, clubs, streets, libraries, cemeteries, weddings, bus stops, and playgrounds. We’ve played with Blondie, Dan Deacon, Man Man, Japanther, Dengue Fever, Okkervil River, Lightning Bolt, Ninjasonik, Mika Miko, Wolf Parade, Matt and Kim, Slavic Soul Party, Javelin, Sage Francis, and Chain and the Gang. We’ve appeared at Lollapalooza, The Newport Folk Festival, Aarhus Festuge (Denmark), Sziget (Hungary), and Guca (Serbia), offering mobile moments of intense revelry.
Speedy Ortiz debuted as Dupuis’ home-recording outlet in 2011, but the solo project quickly blew up into a full-fledged band beloved around the world for its pointed lyrics, disarmingly hooky choruses, and musical ingenuity—as well as its activism. The group graced festival stages from Bonnaroo to Primavera, supported heroic artists from Foo Fighters to Liz Phair, and brought acts including Mitski and Soccer Mommy on some of their earliest tours. In 2016, the band relocated from Massachusetts to Philadelphia, with the lineup changing shortly thereafter to include sonically inventive guitarist Andy Molholt (Laser Background, Eric Slick), drivingly melodic bassist Audrey Zee Whitesides (Mal Blum, Little Waist), and heavy-hitting drummer Joey Doubek (Pinkwash, Downtown Boys). Rabbit Rabbit is the first Speedy album to feature the longtime touring members as full contributors, and Dupuis and her bandmates blaze with unpredictability, their intrepid playing thrusting songs in exhilarating new directions.
Considered veterans of the Boston DIY scene, Kal Marks has been going for over a decade, constantly pushing themselves and growing along the way. Their tireless work ethic keeps them out on the road, throughout the US and most recently their first tour of Europe and the UK. While many bands settle into a comfortable place, Kal Marks take pride in expanding their sound, contorting and reshaping the formula with every album they’ve released. They’ve challenged their audience over the years and its been met with adoration and critical acclaim from outlets like NPR, Pitchfork, Fader, and Stereogum. Known for being one of the loudest and heaviest “indie rock” bands out there, they’ve shared bills with Big Business, Black Midi, The Messthetics, METZ, True Widow, and more. Their explosive live show is built on feedback and cathartic aggression, an outlet to exorcise the weight of the world around us.
Rong is heavy weird based out of Boston, health goth jock jams for your neoliberal hellscape, "good to scrub basement mold to"
Wake In Fright is a punk/rock/roll trio from Portland, Maine featuring Micah Blue Smaldone (Guitar, Vox), Jonas Eule (Drums), and Greg Bazinet (Bass). The band formed in 2022, taking the name as a nod to the Ted Kotcheff film and to their shared love of 70’s Australian punk.
Micah has had a unique presence in Northeastern underground music since the mid 1990s. His first group, the Pinkerton Thugs, were an integral part of the 90s Boston Punk scene. Merging spirited street punk and Woody Guthrie style balladry with radical Anarchist lyrics, the band released a few 7” and two full length LPs. Micah went on to play in several other bands – hardcore legends Out Cold, the Shods, Cops and Robbers, and Boston rockabilly group the Racketeers. In the early 2000’s he began making music under his own name. Built upon a foundation of fingerstyle Country-Blues and Ragtime guitar, his solo efforts expanded over the years into full-band accompaniment, both acoustic and electric, and often vivid, harrowing lyrics.
The self titled LP was released by Feeding Tube Records in March ‘23, with a Cassette edition done by Abraxas Records. They have played frequently around New England since, and in August ‘24 released a follow up 7” EP entitled Around Every Corner.
DakouDakou is a musical collective led by Chenlu Hou and Christopher Sadlers, warping Chinese folk songs through a psychedelic,60s garage-pop lens. Fuzzy strings, brash horns, and echoing voices threaten to collapse into chaos while preserving the beauty of the traditional melodies and lyrics. The music swings from sparse minimalism to dense pop arrangements, equally suitable for dancing or deep listening.
Minibeast is a three-piece band comprised of Peter Prescott (formerly of Mission of Burma, Volcano Suns, Kustomized) playing guitar, keys, noises (mouth & other) & the mind bending rhythm section of Keith Seidel on drums n' percussion and Niels LaWhite on bass. It's liquid music, always moving. We gratefully accept influences from Fela Kuti, Can, and the Stooges.
A determinant machine powered seemingly by fun, Cozy Throne (made up of Harry McCallum, Ben Ferrari, Lindy Snell, and Amara) tries to stay true to their roots with everything they do; 4 lifelong musicians brought together by chance, in a basement doing what they do best. They are perhaps best known for the spectacle of their refreshing, high-energy live show riddled with laughter. Bound to keep even the band on their toes as it flows seamlessly through a variety of moods and genres, their performance is dead set on always delivering a delight you’ve not yet experienced; and never compromising who they are for it. A now inseparable unit, Cozy Throne continues to push the boundaries of DIY rock with their debut, self-recorded album “Sales Pitch” (produced and engineered by honorary fifth member Cade Earick), a ten track exploration of the band’s vast sonic range and technical skill. Honing the craft of engagement as an instrument, playing live shows continues to be a highlight and driving focus of the group’s unique and fresh identity.
