Dennis Coles (born May 9, 1970), known as Ghostface Killah, is a highly influential rapper from Staten Island, NY, and a core member of the iconic Wu-Tang Clan, famous for his vivid storytelling, soulful sound, and prolific solo career that began with Ironman (1996) after the group’s breakthrough. He’s known for alter egos like Tony Starks (Iron Man), has a distinctive fast-paced flow, and is critically acclaimed as a master storyteller in hip-hop, with a catalog including classics like Supreme Clientele.
SAMMUS (Enongo Lumumba-Kasongo) is a Black feminist rapper, beatmaker, and scholar from Ithaca, NY with family roots in Côte D'Ivoire and the Democratic Republic of Congo. She is the David S. Josephson Assistant Professor of Music at Brown University as well as the Faculty Director of the Black Music Lab. Since 2010 she has written, produced, and recorded six albums alongside several collaborations with notable artists including Moor Mother, Open Mike Eagle, Mega Ran, and William Brittelle. She has also produced work for a diverse range of video game developers, podcasters, and filmmakers. As noted by the Los Angeles Times, SAMMUS “has a gift for getting a message across.” She is currently completing two studio projects slated for release in 2025.
Dr. Lumumba-Kasongo received her PhD from Cornell University in Science and Technology Studies in 2019. Her scholarly areas of interest include Black feminist sound studies and hip-hop praxis, particularly as it intersects with AI and gaming technocultures. Since Fall 2021 she has been a member of the steering committee for Brown’s science, technology, and society program. From 2019 to 2024 she served as the Director of Audio at Glow Up Games, the first women-of-color led game studio.
