TERRACES w/ a special performance by Stephen Brodsky of Cave In

  • Brewbakers 48 Emerald St Keene, NH, 03431 United States (map)

Born in the quiet fields of Walpole, NH, TERRACES creates instrumental soundscapes that stretch wide and deep, inviting listeners into exciting terrain. Fast or slow, loud or hushed, TERRACES blends every shade of sound into immersive sonic topography - music to close your eyes to and wander wherever the echoes may take you. This is TERRACES.

New Idea Society had to drop, but we are really psyched that Stephen Brodsky is going to do a solo set!

Born in Boston, Stephen Brodsky is is a descendent of punk/hardcore and best known as vocalist/guitarist/songwriter in the Massachusetts-based band Cave In. Brodsky and co. brought a dizzying array of sounds to the world of metal hardcore at a time when musical exploration within that scene was just beginning. In the late 90's, it seems almost every band that crossed paths with Cave In found themselves returning to the drawing board with newly acquired pedal boards and a taste for sonic alchemy. The band has toured with everyone from Foo Fighters, Muse, Jimmy Eat World, and Lollapalooza 2003 to Neurosis, Isis the band, Hot Water Music and YOB.

Additionally, Brodsky is known for fronting the gonzo metal rock trio Mutoid Man, birthed in Brooklyn in 2012 alongside kit-crusher Ben Koller (Converge) and now boasting the mighty Jeff Matz from Grammy-award winning High On Fire on bass. With 4 formidable releases to its name, Mutoid Man has also shared the stage with the likes of Danzig, Mastodon, Gwar, the Dillinger Escape Plan, Power Trip, COC, Venom Inc. and Baroness.

Speaking of the stage, Mutoid Man also found itself in the unlikely but absolutely fitting role of “house band” for late-night talk-show themed heavy music comedy show Two Minutes to Late Night, which gained considerable visibility during the pandemic of 2020’s global lockdown. Thanks to its Bedroom Covers series, hit songs and deep cuts alike were given a heavy metal facelift with hilarious visuals, providing entertainment for hundreds of thousands of fans and musicians alike while live music venues remained dark. Brodsky was responsible not only for choosing the Rush song “Anthem” as the show’s tribute to Neil Peart, who passed away at the start of that strange year - he successfully persuaded Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria to assume the fearsome task of tackling that towering Geddy Lee vocal performance. Backed by Tool drummer Danny Carey, Les Claypool of Primus, and Bill Kelliher of Mastodon, this wild combination of characters quickly became 2M2MN’s most popular video, reaching 1 million plus views soon after its release.

More recently, Brodsky joined highly influential NYC based Quicksand on the road as 2nd gunslinger, fleshing out the band’s live sound. Supporting their “Distant Populations” and “Slip 30th Anniversary” albums, the band + Brodsky toured both headlining and alongside other 90’s heavyweights like Clutch, Helmet, and Battles from 2021-2023.

Very much leading a life of loud, Brodsky has managed to find time for quieter ventures over the years with projects like Droneflower with Sacred Bones artist Marissa Nadler, as well as a myriad of solo releases - many of which feature his distinctive audio-engineering skills at the helm. Sound recording and song manipulation have long been a source of spiritual manifestation for Brodsky - even at age 47, he displays an unbridled confidence proving there’s still plenty of high art to be excavated from his sonic spring of creativity.

Doors are at 7pm and music will begin at 730! Seating is first come first served!

Thanks to support from Savings Bank of Walpole, this show has an Access For All option which lets you name your price (you can't buy multiples of this option at the same time, so to buy more than one ticket, it is necessary to do each additional ticket in a different transaction).
