The Draa Hobbs Jazz Quartet / Hiroya Tsukamoto

  • Brewbakers 48 Emerald St Keene, NH, 03431 United States (map)

The Draa Hobbs Jazz Quartet performs original compositions from Draa’s recently released CD “West Quest” along with familiar standards and contemporary jazz. The band consists of Draa Hobbs on guitar, Rich Greenblatt on vibes; Steve Bulmer on bass; and Tim Gilmore on drums.

Draa Hobbs has been a professional musician for more than 40 years. He has played in clubs and concerts throughout New England, Boston, New York, Germany and France. A student of the late Hungarian guitarist Attila Zoller, Draa has performed in concerts with many jazz legends including Don Friedman, Ron McClure, Eliot Zigmund, and top tier guitarists Peter Bernstein, Vic Juris, John Stowell and Steve Cardenas.

Rich Greenblatt is a vibraphonist “with dazzling speed and a truly magical touch,” writes John Blenn in Good Times Magazine. Recording artists with five CD’s as a leader, he combines the swinging style of Milt Jackson and the four-mallet technique of Gary Burton.

Rich is a full-professor at the Berklee College of Music, Music Director of the Cirque du Soleil Ensemble at Berklee, and endorses Musser vibraphones and Vic Firth Mallets. He has performed at jazz festivals and clubs in Europe and the United States.

Steve Bulmer is active as a jazz bassist performing throughout New England with many regional artists and ensembles including performances with Phil Woods, John Abercrombie, Ali Ryerson, Kendra Shank, Nick Brignola, and vocalese artist Giacomo Gates. Steve performs with Connecticut-based symphony orchestras including those in Wallingford, Ridgefield, Waterbury and also the Greater Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra. He also plays tuba and arranges for the Constitution Brass Quintet and has enjoyed re-arranging Widor and Vierne symphonic organ classics for brass quintet.

Tim Gilmore Tim has worked with Tower of Power, Pete Seeger, Shawn Colvin, and has performed on PBS documentaries, an HBO mini-series, and the feature film: Vermont is for Lovers. He has appeared at the Cape May Jazz Festival, the Shenandoah Valley Jazz Festival, the Blue Note in New York City, and Ronnie Scott’s in London.

Experience the spellbinding artistry of Hiroya Tsukamoto, a Japanese-born master of fingerstyle guitar and evocative storytelling, as he returns to perform songs from his newest album, Rainshadow. On this latest project, Tsukamoto uses his composing and songwriting talents to hone in on crafting compelling, memorable, and singable melodies. He writes, “Through this record, I hope you will find some melodies that resonate with you and that you end up humming in your daily life.”

Recognized for his dizzyingly agile fingerpicking and his soulful performances, Tsukamoto invites audiences into his world of musical exploration and emotional expression. Come witness a performer who has been celebrated for his “delicate, fluid, and beautifully detailed” style (Acoustic Guitar magazine), and for his ability to take listeners on an “impressionistic journey” (Boston Herald).

Tsukamoto, an alumnus of Berklee College of Music, has been recognized for his talents on stages such as Blue Note in New York City, NHK Television, International Storytelling Center, and United Nations. He scored second place at the International Fingerstyle Guitar Championship in 2018 and 2022.
