What is Nova

About Nova

Nova is a nonprofit arts space at 48 Emerald Street in downtown Keene. We book touring and local artists on the same bill, we host residencies that make art with the community instead of for it, and we keep the door open to people who can’t pay full price.

MISSION

Nova Arts is a nonprofit, collaborative arts initiative focused on emerging artists, underrepresented voices, and unexpected juxtapositions. We present and partner with creative individuals, organizations, and ideas.

Nova presents, incubates, and promotes arts and culture. We make room for performances, arts education, and community collaborations that have a social impact, enhance culture, and encourage creative inquiry.

We’re interested in the combinations nobody else would try, which is how the Sun Ra Arkestra ended up on a bill with an experimental cellist, and how Yo La Tengo ended up here on a weeknight in September.

The room

  • Capacity. The room feels great with 20 people seated or 200 people standing.. Seating is limited and first come, first served.
  • Ages. Every show is all ages.
  • Tickets. Usually $20, general admission, with a name-your-price option on every night.
  • Artists. Paid fairly, and told what they’re getting before they load in.
  • Also here. Coffee, beer, Brewbakers, records, flowers, and more. Make a day of it.

What we run

  • Shows. Touring and local artists, most weeks of the year. See the calendar.
  • Community Collaborations. We partner with creative organizations and individuals to make an impact in our community.
  • The Thing in the Spring. The festival founded in Peterborough in 2008, which now calls Nova home.
  • SPAR(K). Our annual social practice artist residency, bringing socially engaged artists to Keene to make work with the community.

House rules

  • A safe space. Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, or ableism will not be tolerated.
  • All ages. Please read show descriptions to decide whether an event is right for your party. If you’re over 21 and want to be served alcohol, bring your ID.
  • Tickets are non-refundable. Thank you for understanding.
