There will be Bollywood dance music before the screening and a brief cultural introduction to the film presented by Vidhi.

Audiences can shop for Vidhi’s pop-up stall of Indian handicrafts such as shawls, purses and silver jewelry sourced directly from the makers. Also available at the venue will be Indian snacks that audiences can enjoy before the screening and during the 10-minute intermission.

About the film:

English Vinglish, directed by Gauri Shinde, is the story of a homemaker named Shashi Godbole who secretly enrolls for a basic English-speaking class on her month-long trip to New York City. Shashi represents countless Indians who feel lost and under-confident in urban India due to their lack of proficiency in the English language. English Vinglish, the title alludes to the linguistic habit in India of attaching a rhyming made-up word to an existing one; for example coffee-vofee, sugar-vugar, course-vourse, talk-shalk, etc. Several classroom scenes in the film allude to the popular British sitcom from the 1970s, Mind Your Language. A major portion of the film is shot in New York City and audiences living in the US will be delighted to watch familiar locations in a Bollywood film. English Vinglish is a light-hearted film that connects with audiences across all age groups and ethnicities. The film has catchy upbeat music composed by contemporary music director Amit Trivedi. The primary language of the film is Hindi but the copy to be screened will have English subtitles.
