Jim Murphy w/ Cecil Abels

  • Brewbakers 48 Emerald St Keene, NH, 03431 United States (map)

Jim Murphy's musical journey began at 12, strumming his first chords on Long Island NY. Forming a band at 13, they rocked weekend dances at the legendary "Mod," where legends like Billy Joel once played. After years of honing his skills, in 2004 he started the band Murphy's Blues at the legendary Blues club, the Ryborn. Now, he's grooving with his new project, Murphy Groove.

Get ready for an electrifying night as Jim showcases his latest tunes from his September 2023 album, "Murphy's Groove," along with gems from his 2020 and 2014 releases. Joining him on backup vocals is the talented Jessica Gelter, co-writer of two new, unreleased songs they'll be unveiling live! Don't miss this chance to fully experience Jim's musical passion!

Now, in comes Cecil “Mr Sippy” Abels born and raised in the hill country of North Mississippi, triangulated between, Memphis, Mussel Shoals and Jackson.  The music that saturated his early experiences was part gospel, soul, country, R&B and blues, not unlike that boy from Tupelo.  These influences combined with coming of age music in the 70’s that trended towards alternative vs. pop music and created fertile soil for an alternative (anti-pop) musical repertoire. Beginning guitar in “Jr High” he began accompanying himself on songs and performances in high School College and throughout a 20+ year career in the U.S. Navy, the path that brought him to New England.  An entertainer at heart, Mr Sippy brings a very wide range of songs and humor to his shows.

Known primarily as the frontman of The New England Bluegrass Band, performing on stages like Winterhawk, Greyfox, Ossipee Valley Music Festival, and Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival and celebrated European World of Bluegrass Festivals in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and all across England. The band continues to perform in the region and ( so far) has one alumni with a Grammy Award in Chris Pandolfi now of The Infamous Stringdusters.

Doors are at 7pm and music will start at 8!
